The Lutz Field Station

by Bob Zimmerman

The pictures below are of the Lutz Field Station, located near Dunmore, West Virginia, and purchased by the Potomac Speleological Club on June 22, 2003. The station is available for PSC members and their guests for camping. Contact Pete Penczer, station manager, for more information.

The first set of pictures, taken by Pete Penczer, give a nice idea of what the overall property looks like.

The second set of pictures were taken by me on May 18, 2003 during one of the many incredibly wet weekends this spring in West Virginia. It had been raining for days, and raining hard that day. The pictures show what is normally either a dry or a very tiny streambed that flows behind the camper in the woods that line the back of the property. On this day it was a roaring stream. Note that though there were some wet spots in the field, the ground was generally solid. If the property was going to flood, this was the day it would have done it.
