In May of 2003 the Potomac Speleological Club purchased about 2 acres of land in West Virginia, near the town of Dunmore, West Virginia. The property, about a half hour from Marlington and Cass, is ideally located as a base camp for caving trips to Friars Hole, Cass Cave, Simmons-Mingo, and a host of other caves.
The fieldstation is a large grassy field with plenty of camping space. Though it also has a small camper with electricity, everyone should bring a tent and plan to camp. You should also bring water, as there is no potable water as yet on the site.
Note also that there is a fee of $2.00 per night for PSC members, and $4.00 per night for nonmembers (who are welcome but must be guests of a PSC member).
For more information about how and when this property was purchased by PSC, read the original purchase announcement by Bob Zimmerman.
